VPN & Proxy Usage Policy

This page explains our policy on VPN, proxy, Tor, and residential proxy usage. As a location-based service, accurate location data is essential to how we work.

If using our services creates privacy and safety risks or is illegal in your country, please do not use our services. A VPN or proxy will not protect you.

Why We Restrict VPNs & Proxies

VPNs and proxies interfere with our ability to provide core features and maintain a safe community:

  • Security — Shared VPN IP addresses are frequently used in coordinated abuse, spam, and account takeover attacks.
  • Shared IPs — Multiple users sharing a single IP address makes it difficult to enforce per-user safety measures.
  • Abuse prevention — VPNs are commonly used to evade bans, create duplicate accounts, and circumvent moderation actions.
  • Legal compliance — We may be required to enforce regional restrictions and age verification requirements that VPNs can circumvent.
  • Location features — Discovery, nearby users, and distance calculations rely on accurate location data that VPNs and proxies mask.

What Is Restricted

  • Account registration is not permitted from VPN, proxy, Tor, or residential proxy connections, i.e., obfuscated connections. Registrations made from such connections may be cancelled retroactively.
  • Free accounts cannot log in and use our services while connected to a VPN or proxy. Upgrading to Premium enables VPN login with acknowledged limitations.

How to Resolve

If you are unable to register or log in, please disconnect your VPN, proxy, or any other location-altering technology and try again. This is always the recommended solution.

Premium Users & VPN and Proxy Access

Premium members may log in via VPN after acknowledging the following limitations during checkout:

  • Location-based features (discovery, nearby users, distance) may not work correctly or at all.
  • If your VPN exit IP has been banned due to abuse by other users, access will still be denied regardless of your account tier.
  • If your VPN exit IP is determined to be violating our Terms of Service while you are logged in to your account, your account may be limited, suspended, or cancelled. It is your responsibility to ensure that your login credentials are secure.

Apple Private Relay

Apple Private Relay (iCloud+) is not affected by this policy. Private Relay preserves your approximate location and is not treated as a VPN or proxy. However, location-based features may be affected and some IP addresses may be temporarily blocked.

As stated in our Terms of Service (§2), access to the Service through VPNs, proxies, or similar technologies is not guaranteed. Users must register from their actual physical location (§4).
