Meeting people online is exciting, but it helps to know the signs of dishonest behaviour. This page covers what to watch out for and how to protect yourself.
Recognising scams
- Scammers often create compelling profiles and build trust quickly before asking for something
- Common requests include money for travel, visa fees, medical emergencies, or investment opportunities
- Profiles that seem too good to be true, use professional or stock photos, or respond unusually fast may be automated or fake
- Be cautious of anyone who quickly moves the conversation off the platform to email or messaging apps
Protecting yourself
- Never send money, gift cards, or cryptocurrency to someone you have not met in person
- Do not share your home address, workplace, or daily routine with someone you have just met
- Keep early conversations on the platform — your messages are protected here
- Trust your instincts — if something feels off, it probably is
What we do
- All profiles and photos are reviewed before appearing on the app
- Our moderation team reviews reports from users and takes action on confirmed violations
- Accounts found to be fake, scamming, or harassing others are suspended
Reporting suspicious behaviour
- Use the report button on any profile or message to flag it for review
- Reports are reviewed by our moderation team — you will not be identified to the person you report
- If you believe you have been the victim of a scam, report it to your local authorities in addition to reporting on the platform
